How It Started Vs How It's Going
Back in January, the weight had started to creep on after the Xmas festivities and because I have the appetite of a small village, couple that with potential ADHD and an incessant food ‘noise’ (IYKYK) and I was done. I’d had enough of feeling uncomfortable and overweight.
I guess I was fortunate in some ways because I’m one of those stocky types who just look beefy rather than overweight, but the love handles were telling a different story, even if they were out of sight and out of mind.
So when I travelled to Glasgow to see my mate do his first Hyrox, I was like “I need me some of this shit”. Now, I’m no stranger to physical challenges; I’m a four-time AIDS/LifeCycle veteran (7-day bike ride from San Fran to LA / 545 brutal, but beautiful miles), but my last ride was back in 2019, and here I am at the scales at 111 kg (almost 245lbs for my American friends). I was HEA-VY!
Standing in the arena in Glasgow, I felt that familiar feeling wash over me when I entered the Cow Palace for the first time in SF. It was that electric atmosphere, the music blaring, and all the people. And don’t even get me started on the men! I needed a lie down after seeing all those hot hot hot men!
Anyway… here we are today, at around 11.5 kg lighter, and for the first time in YEARS, I dropped below 100 kg on the scales! Now, weighing myself was never top of my list; I would plod along quite happily, and I liked looking like a bouncer.
So not satisfied with one event, we’ve got four coming up. If you’ve not read any of the other posts, we have GymRace London (a Hyrox knock-off) in September, Hyrox Poland & Hyrox Birmingham (UK) in October - just after my 53rd and then Hyrox London in December. And, of course, as per my earlier post, Hyrox Manchester in Jan 2027. All this with my Psychology degree beginning in Septemeber too. I am going to be one busy lady. 😂
So now, as you have probably guessed, I am training like an athlete, 6 days a week and working my little tushy off. And man, don’t my knees know it.
So here’s how it started…
And here’s how it’s going…
Anyway, my friends, other than sharing all this backstory with you, I do hope it inspires someone out there to realise that you can do anything you set your mind to. Absolutely anything.
Thanks for reading!
Have a good one!
David
